Teaching Interviewing and Assessment Using a Combination of Asynchronous and Synchronous AssignmentsThis webinar will focus on the use of asynchronous and synchronous assignments in teaching interviewing and assessment skills. Based on practical application of delivering course content using this format with students in a human services graduate program, participants will gain knowledge of scaffolding an asynchronous process through use of a self-assessment and a peer-assessment tool. Participants will also learn how to set up and moderate synchronous interview assignments that assist students in mastering interviewing and assessment skills.
The presenter began integrating synchronous assignments into a fully on-line graduate level interviewing and assessment course during the fall 2010 semester. After overcoming initial anxieties about the use of Elluminate Live!, student response to the assignments has been positive. The students seem to appreciate having the opportunity to work in real-time with peers and the professor. Students are assigned the role of interviewer, interviewee, and peer consultant and are expected to provide relevant feedback in each of these roles.
This webinar highlights the inherent complexities of teaching an interviewing and assessment course in a fully on-line format while providing participants with a framework for balancing asynchronous and synchronous assignments. Participants will understand the benefits and constraints of teaching interviewing and assessment in a fully on-line course.
