TxCRLA/TADE present: Examining the Core Principles: Benefits, Drawbacks, and Data (Video)

Rating: 0.0/5 (0 votes cast)

Join us as we talk with Alexandros Goudas and investigate the meanings, benefits, drawbacks, and data behind the six core principles outlined in the 2015 document “Core Principles for Transforming Remediation within a Comprehensive Student Success Strategy.” This document has six original signatories, yet there are many who have signed on since, including NADE and NCDE. The questions now are, should CASP members endorse the principles, and if so, how should the core principles be implemented? Please join us for a lively discussion which will hopefully lead to a better understanding of the philosophies behind the proposed reforms, and what we can do as educators to properly implement new changes in developmental education.

Alexandros M. Goudas is Developmental Education Coordinator and Assistant Professor of English at Delta College in Michigan. In volume 36 of the Journal of Developmental Education (JDE), Alex was lead author for the article “Addressing Flawed Research in Developmental Education” (2012), a publication co-authored by Dr. Hunter R. Boylan. Because of this work, Alex and Hunter were presented with the JDE Outstanding Article Award. Alex has been elected President of the Michigan Developmental Education Consortium (MDEC) two times. He has also been the keynote speaker for several NADE-affiliated developmental education state conferences, and he was recently honored with the 2015 MDEC Educator of the Year Award.
